Snowfall Warning in effect for:- Coquihalla Highway - Hope to Merritt
A long period of snowfall with total amounts of 25 to 35 cm is expected.
When:
Snow beginning this morning and tapering off Wednesday evening
Where:
- Coquihalla Highway (Near Coquihalla Summit)
Additional information:
Another frontal system combined with lower snow levels is set to bring snow to the Coquihalla summit beginning this morning and lasting till Wednesday evening. Snowfall totals for today during the day are 5-10 cm, while 10-20 cm is expected overnight with an additional 10-15 cm likely on Wednesday. Snow may be at times mixed with rain late this afternoon and this evening as the snow levels rise to near the summit. Areas south of the summit are expected to see rain, with totals ranging 40-50 mm. In addition, wind gusts are expected to pick up overnight, with gusts ranging up to 70 km/h which could lead to local blowing snow along the route.
Travel will likely be challenging. Road closures are possible.
Weather in the mountains can change suddenly resulting in hazardous driving conditions.
